Lamar's new life.
Lamar J. came to De La Salle Vocational on September 30, 2008 following his discharge from Saint Gabriel’s Hall. At that time, he, too, was committed to the Saint Francis program, residing in one of their off-campus group homes. Lamar made steady and consistent progress at De La Salle, maintaining daily attendance, strong grades, respectful behaviors and a pleasant demeanor throughout his time in the program. Teachers commended him on his diligent work habits, his eagerness to learn and his full compliance with classroom rules/expectations. Lamar repeatedly earned honors in the program and recognition for his many achievements. In the end, he graduated from De La Salle Vocational in June 2009, earning his high school diploma and job training certificate in Culinary Arts. Additionally, Lamar was chosen as our Salutatorian speaker, sharing his story with his peers, staff and many guests at the June graduation ceremony. Lamar left De La Salle with a full-time position at Aria Hospital-Torresdale campus where he works as a cook. He resides in his own apartment through Saint Francis’ Independent Living program and just began his second year at Community College of Philadelphia where Lamar is pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Also, he recently obtained his driver’s license, bought a car and is fully insured. Lamar fully utilized the academic, vocational and therapeutic services offered at De La Salle Vocational. He is an exemplary young man who has already met with considerable success and who, surely, will continue to grow and progress.
